Introduction to Local Coastal Plan Update and Report on Existing Conditions and Sea Level Rise

The City Council held the project’s first joint public workshop with the Planning Commission on the Local Coastal Plan Update and received the Draft 2019 Existing Conditions and Sea Level Rise Report at a special meeting on March 26, 2019 at 6:00 pm in the City Council Chamber at 211 Hillcrest Avenue in Marina. All interested persons were invited to attend and participate in this workshop.

The purpose of the workshop was to introduce the City Council and the Planning Commission to the City’s Local Coastal Program (LCP) planning process. Notices of the workshop were mailed to all property owners within the City’s Coastal zone as well as any interested parties.

As of the date of the meeting, staff and EMC Planning Group had initialized an outreach process and collected data for an Existing Conditions Report for the LCP. This workshop was the first public meeting to introduce the planning effort and the draft results of the background report. City staff is been in regular communication with California Coastal Commission (CCC) staff and a draft of the report was sent to the CCC staff for review and comment.

For the workshop, the City Council and Planning Commission received a presentation from staff and EMC Planning Group on the initial findings of the draft Existing Conditions Report. This report was finalized following the meeting and posted on the LCP Update website.
