[ARCHIVED] AN INTOXICATED MALE ABANDONS CRASHED MOTORCYCLE AND LEADS POLICE ON AN EXTENDED FOOT CHASE

On June 7, 2009 at 0036 hours, a Marina Police Officer, Edward Bachtel, and a California State University Police Officer, Matthew Dasilva, witnessed a motorcyclist traveling at a high rate of speed on Imjin Parkway. As the Officers attempted to locate the motorcyclist, they lost site of it in the area of Imjin Parkway and Abrams. When the Officers arrived in this area, parts from the motorcycle were found in the roadway. The motorcycle was later found crashed and off of the roadway and in the brush.

Based on the damage to the motorcycle, we believing it was likely that the motorcyclist may have been injured and in need of medical care. California State University Police Officers continued to assist Marina Officers with this investigation.

On several occasions, a male was scene hiding in the brush. When Officers would attempt to contact the male, he fled from them on foot. After and extensive search was conducted, the male was located on the 500-block of Ingman Court. Based on the visible injuries to the male, it was determined that he was the rider of the crashed motorcycle.

The male was identified as David Ayotte (DOB 08-27-82). David Ayotte was subsequently arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and Fleeing from Officers. After receiving treatment for his injuries, he was booked into the Monterey County Jail.
