POLICE DEPARTMENT CONTACT: Rick Janicki, Lieutenant/PIO
The Marina Police and Fire Departments are announcing their no tolerance stance on the use or possession of illegal fireworks in the City of Marina. In an effort to curb the use of illegal fireworks, both the Police Department and Fire Department are deploying additional personnel on July 4th with the expressed intent to locate and arrest persons in possession of fireworks not designated as safe and sane by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
The use of illegal fireworks creates fire and life hazards not only to users, but to those in the immediate area of their use. Damage to property or injuries to persons as a result of the use of illegal fireworks could lead to civil suit as well as prosecution.
In general, dangerous/illegal fireworks are those that::
• Explode
• Rise in the air
• Move Across the ground
• Discharge flaming balls that can explode
• Travel great distances and cause fires or property damage.
The Marina Police Department urges residents to report the use of illegal fireworks to the Police Department. To do so call (831) 384-7575 (24 hour line), Police Department business line (831) 884-1210, the Police Department Tip Line (831) 884-1286 or via the Police Department section of the City website at www.ci.marina.ca.us.
Please remember that safe and sane fireworks may only be sold and discharged within the City of Marina during the period from 12:00 o’clock noon on June 28 to and until 11:59 p.m. on July 4.
