[ARCHIVED] Two Men Convicted In Kidnap-Robbery Case

The Monterey County District Attorney's Office announced two suspects were convicted by a jury this week of multiple crimes of violence related to a kidnap and robbery incident that occurred in Marina back in February of 2008. The suspects were arrested by the Marina Police Department within one day of committing their crimes and have been in custody in Monterey County since that time. Both defendants are now facing life sentences for their crimes.

The jury trial for defendants, Marco Villapuda and Samuel Ortiz, charged with armed robbery, kidnapping, and torture, began on March 9, 2009. Jury selection took over two days and testimony began on March 11, 2009. Testimony in the trial concluded March 18th. The jury deliberated until March 25th and returned a unanimous guilty verdict.
