On August 5, 2009 at 2151 hours, a Marina Officer was on routine patrol in the 100-Block ofBeach Road. The Officer, who is very familiar with his assigned area, noticed a conversion vanparked in a large parking lot. Because he did not recognize the van a registration check wasconducted. It was then that he learned that the van was stolen from the City of Sunnyvale.Additional Marina Officers quickly responded for assistance and a High Risk Felony Car Stopwas initiated. While attempting to remove the unknown occupants from the vehicle, an adultmale exited the passenger side of the vehicle and fled from the scene on foot. Because of thedirection that the suspect ran, two of the officers that were on scene were able to safely pursuethe fleeing suspect. Shortly after, he was captured and arrested. An adult female was alsoremoved from the vehicle.The adult male was identified as Justin Hardin (DOB 7-15-76). Hardin was booked into theMonterey County Jail for Possession of Stolen Property, Resisting Arrest, and for his Violationof Parole.The adult female was identified as Karen Martinez (DOB 9-30-74). Martinez was found to be inPossession of a Controlled Substance and was also booked into the Monterey County Jail.
