[ARCHIVED] PURSE SNATCH

DATE OF INCIDENT: August 11, 2009
TIME OF INCIDENT: 1626 Hours
LOCATION OF INCIDENT: Carmel Avenue near Redwood Drive
PREPARED BY: Sgt. Scott Clegg

DEPARTMENT CONTACT: Rick Janicki, Lieutenant, PIO

On August 11, 2009 at 1626 hours, Marina Police Officers were dispatched to a report of a purse snatch in the area of Carmel Avenue and Redwood Drive. Responding officers contacted an elderly female who reported an unknown suspect had taken her purse as she was walking home on Carmel Avenue. The victim was unable to provide a description of the suspect. The victim was not injured in the incident.

Marina Police were later advised of a possible witness that called in stating they saw a young white male, possibly in his early 20’s to late teens, with dark colored hair, take a woman’s purse in that same location and then flee. The only other description of the male was that he was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and jeans. The male was seen getting into a gold colored vehicle, possibly an Acura 4-door, with tinted windows. The vehicle was described as being in good condition. The witness believed there were likely more persons inside the vehicle. The male got into the passenger’s side of the vehicle and fled the area.
