Windy Hill Park

The playground, designed and installed by KOMPAN, Inc., boasts an array of exciting playground equipment for children ages 2-12. A custom made, nearly 12-foot-tall owl play structure, made from organic Robinia wood, welcomes visitors to the playground and offers a variety of climbing paths to reach the top. A rope dome and slide give younger children age-appropriate climbing, bouncing, and sliding play opportunities and continues the nature narrative with custom forest-themed panels. A variety of wooden balancing playground equipment tests children’s steadiness with a variety of challenges. Playground classics, like springers and spinners, can be found throughout the playground, and a swing set with ADA-accessible seating caters to children of all ages and abilities. 
 
 “Windy Hill Park is an excellent example of a nature-based, themed playground that will inspire creativity and social connection,” said Suzanne Quinn, Ph.D., manager of the KOMPAN Play Institute, a unit dedicated to leading play product development through research.  “The owl play structure, with its friendly face, sparks a child’s imagination and provides an inviting start to make-believe play, whether on their own or with others. The rich variety of forest themes seen on the surrounding play equipment seamlessly extends the storytelling experience. This is an outdoor space that encourages longer visits with more engaging play for the Marina community.”
